SAMe stabilizes CBS enzyme

I hope people here are not tired from molecular studies yet? 🙂

Interesting fact about dependency of CBS activity from the level of SAMe:

“In this study, we demonstrate that methionine restriction leads to a >10-fold decrease in CBS protein levels, and pulse proteolysis studies reveal that binding of AdoMet stabilizes the protein against degradation by ≈12 kcal/mol.”

This study shows, that AdoMet (SAMe) is not only activator of CBS enzyme, which increases activity 2-3 fold, but actually a substrate that saves the CBS enzyme itself from destruction.

Some people are trying to push tons of B12 to address oxidative stress and methylation, while missing the point that maybe there is low level of (methionine + SAMe + homocysteine) in the cells and no matter how much B12 or folate you push, there won’t be sufficient amino acids level to maintain steady work of the cycle.
