MS and SAHH might be cuproenzymes?
What I like the most in doing literature research is finding pieces that make me scream “holy sh…!”! 😃
For example, I just read one sentence that made me do “huh!?? 😲”:
“Copper is a cofactor to many enzymes, which may include methionine synthase and SAHH.”
Wait, what? Let’s google “copper methionine synthase”. Can’t be, right?
The second paper in the search results tells us…. drum roll…
“Copper deficiency resulted in a 21% reduction in hepatic methionine synthase activity as compared to the control group (P<0.01).
This change most likely caused the increased hepatic 5-methyltetrahydrofolate and plasma homocysteine concentrations in the copper-deficient group.
Our results indicate that hepatic methionine synthase may be a cuproenzyme, and plasma homocysteine concentrations are influenced by copper nutriture in rats.” (R1)
Unbelievable. What if MS is indeed a cuproenzyme? Why wasn’t this found already? Could be a wrong conclusion too.
Sorry for the dramatic post, this finding has a big potential if confirmed.
