Nrf2 might be inhibiting heme synthesis

Looks like Nrf2 activation blocks initiation of heme synthesis by inhibiting ALAD:

“However, pretreatment with SFN significantly (p<0.05) decreased the levels of ALAD, Arsenic concentration, and brought antioxidant enzymes into normal levels.” (R1)

This is bad news for people with combined iron deficiency and high oxidative stress at the same time.

Also bad news for people suffering from lead-induced porphyria that also causes high oxidative stress - they should not be using Nrf2 activators apparently (?).
