Traumatic Brain Injury impairs degradation of autophagosomes
There are numerous papers describing that TBI causes accumulation of autophagosomes, due to impaired lysosomal degradation.
Autophagosome is a container that collects proteins that need to be destroyed. The actual destruction happens inside lysosomes, when they merge with autophagosomes.
It’s possible that autophagosomes can accumulate, and that can cause neurological and metabolic diseases.
I know people who developed tics after experiencing TBI. This could be connected.
