Streptolysin S inhibits GSK3b degradation, damages mitochondria
Streptococcus infection blocks degradation of GSK3b enzyme:
In this study, we found the wild type GAS-induced macrophage death was associated with GSK-3β activation, mitochondrial ROS production and mitochondrial damage. Moreover, we suggest a new mechanism of SLS-induced cell death through inhibiting a proteasome-dependent degradation of GSK-3β and further enhancing mitochondrial damage and cell death. (R1)
I have many posts here that give a hint that overactive GSK3b has a direct role in OCD, depression and even Tourette syndrome. Just search for GSK3b on my website.
Streptolysin S is a toxin released by the bacteria (Wikipedia).
