Arachidonic acid synthesis requires heme
I found that Arachidonic acid synthesis from the essential Linoleic acid depends on Iron (heme) in two out of four steps in the process.
Arachidonic acid is a source of endocannabinoid anandamide inside our cells' membranes.
It seems clear now that when heme synthesis is weakened by iron, biotin, zinc or copper deficiency or high oxidative stress and it goes for years, the level of endocannabinoid signalling would be expected to be altered due to arachidonic acid insufficiency unless it’s sufficiently present in the diet.
This might be related to maternal iron deficiency and increased prevalence of tics in children I posted earlier.
