Inhibition of FECH and Photosensitivity
Anybody has photosensitivity (from clinical point of view; like in porphyria)?
This paper gives a hint that some drugs can off target FECH, the enzyme that inserts iron into heme. And that can cause reversal of FECH activity - FECH is also able to remove iron from heme.
Since the genetic loss of FECH activity leads to photosensitivity in humans, our data strongly suggest that FECH inhibition by kinase inhibitors is the molecular mechanism triggering photosensitivity in patients. (R1)
ferrochelatase localizes to both the mitochondrial outer and inner membranes and that the change in the equilibrium position of the forward and reverse activities may be regulated by the phosphorylation of ferrochelatase. (R2)
