Retinoic acid and NAD
I saw some cases here of huge improvement with high dose of Vitamin A.
But what about negative experience from vitamin A?
In our family we seem not to tolerate vitamin A in the their typical forms (and high dose beta-carotene supplements too).
I suspect this is because Retinoic acid inhibits Nrf2 - something that we’re trying to activate to feel better.
I just checked Reactome for metabolism of retinoic acid and it seems the conversion of retynol to RA consumes NAD+ in two oxidative steps (NAD becomes NADH). So if somebody has low NAD or high NADH, taking vitamin A may cause temporary energy drop.
