Toxic dopamine inside the cells
Does anybody know if dopamine-transporting vesicles can rupture within the neuron and release dopamine inside, instead of outside? Or if there is a possibility of impaired exocytosis, when instead of releasing D outside, it ends up in the cytosol?
The question appeared after reading this.
I don’t think cells make toxic dopamine in the cytosol - that makes no sense. It should be made within the vesicles, which are packed with required substrates and enzymes.
So my guess is that something goes wrong between creation of the vesicle and releasing its content out, if dopamine ends up within the neuron as a free-floating toxin.
